    Principal’s Message – November 2024

Dear New Sarepta Elementary School Families,

As we turn the page to November, I want to reflect on the accomplishments and events of October. It was a month filled with energy, enthusiasm, and growth for our students, staff, and school community. From our assemblies acknowledging and learning about National Truth and Reconciliation to engaging in character education activities, all building up to a very exciting day of Halloween chaos.

One of the most inspiring parts of last month was witnessing our students’ commitment to learning, kindness, and collaboration. We challenge the students to identify and understand the difference between a good student and a good learner. We can get lost in focusing on the attributes of a good, compliant student who follows the rules, but that is not where the journey ends. Being a good student is the foundation of becoming a good learner, and over the next few months, we will challenge students to demonstrate skills and attitudes that move beyond being a good student. I also want to thank our teachers, staff, and families for your ongoing support and involvement. Through your commitment, we can create an environment where every student can thrive.

As we enter November, we look forward to our Remembrance Day Assembly (Nov 8th -10:30-11:30 a.m. @ NSCHS) and the Fall Break Nov 9th-17th. Our book fair will run the final week of November (Nov. 25th-29th) and align with our Parent Teacher Interviews on November 26th and 27th.

Thank you for your partnership in making New Sarepta a wonderful place to learn and grow, and I wish you a joyful and meaningful November!

    Warm regards,
    Rob Froland, Principal

For those who have students with known allergies/sensitivities – we have contacted their parents separately. If your child has any allergies/sensitivities and you haven’t been contacted, it may be that we don’t have the most up-to-date information for your child/children. Please feel free to reach out if your child’s health information has changed.

The book fair will be open during Parent-Teacher interviews on November 26 & 27 for you as well.

The Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held on Nov 8th @ 10:30, featuring the grade 3&4 choir, accompanied by the uke and bucket drum club. Come join us in the celebration of unity and freedom.

SAVE THE DATE! DEC 18th is our annual Christmas Concert at 1:00 and 7:00. Students are expected to perform both times. If your child is in grade 6 this year, they must be present for both performances! Parents, if you are interested in helping with costumes and props, please contact Mrs. Kruk at [email protected]. Thanks to the Murch Family for volunteering your time to make sets this year!

This year there will be costumes needed for different classes. Those details will be coming soon.

Wish list! I often have parents asking about donating to the music room. This year I am looking for children’s Christmas sweaters! You can also use this QR code to purchase anything on my wish list. As always the Silver Collection music fund is available for donations all year round through the Power School portal. Special thanks to the Melvyn Family for purchasing from the wish list!

    Sabre Day – CEC

On October 24th to celebrate Sabre Day students participated in some learning about what it means to be a good learner and then had a ton of fun with their grade level friends playing some awesome games. The games were working on social emotional learning.

    Catch Volleyball Tournament

This fall, our school offered a new sport called Catch Volleyball. Students in grade 5 and 6 had an opportunity to develop volleyball skills and represent our team on October 18th/19th at Covenant Christian School for a tournament. Our coaches Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Hiller thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students have fun, play as a team, succeed, and develop a love for the sport. Well done NSE.

    Fire Prevention Week

This year, Fire Prevention Week ran from October 7-11 under the theme “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” Fire Prevention Week is recognized every October with a mission to increase the awareness of fire prevention and safety through direct education of the public. Kindergarten to Grade 6 students had field trips to our local fire hall and learned about fire safety.

    Milk Program

NSES offers white and chocolate milk for students at lunchtime. Milk cards are available for purchase on your child’s PowerSchool account. You are also welcome to send cash to the office. There are 10 for $12.50 cards and 20 for $25 cards available to buy.

    Nutrition Program – Muffin Days

So far the Muffin Monday program seems to be a hit. We hope to add other items to the program throughout the year. As always, we will have fresh fruit & veggies available for student snacks.

Please make sure your child’s allergy/medical information is up to date at all times. Also, if you have any concerns, please contact the office.

    Muffin Recipes:

To make some gluten aware, we will use oat flour in place of wheat flour.

    NSES Lost & Found

Lost & found items are located in the office. Please remind your children to check it regularly and if you are in the school, remember to have a look. All items not claimed will be donated at the periodically throughout the school year.

Li’l Buckaroo Design – Spirit Wear

We are very fortunate to have an amazing local business to provide NSES Sabre Spirit Wear to our school community. If you missed out on the earlier order or just want to add to your collection, check out the website and see all the awesome designs.
