We had a nice run, but winter struck in January. Thank you to the community for working together to get through the stretch of days dropping below -40 degrees Celsius. I’m hoping we have turned a corner and we will not have to worry about bus cancellations and inside recess for a while.
As February unfolds, we are delighted to share some upcoming events that promise to add warmth and joy to the winter season.
Skiing and Skating Excursion:
We are embracing the winter wonderland by participating in our skiing and skating events. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying it out for the first time, these activities provide a chance to enjoy the great outdoors and build a sense of community. On Feb 2nd, Grade 4-6 students have the opportunity to learn some skills and have some fun when we head to Rabbit Hill for the day. Every student will have the opportunity to go skating the week of February 12th-16th, a huge thank you to the Ag Society for providing this opportunity for our students.
Family Dance – Thursday, Feb 22nd 6:00-8:30pm:
Join us for a night of music, laughter, and dance! Our Family Dance is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and create lasting memories. We encourage you to bring your dancing shoes and enjoy an evening of fun.
Buddy Day (Feb 22nd):
Friendship is at the heart of our community, and Buddy Day is a special occasion to celebrate the bonds that make our school unique.
We look forward to these events and fostering a sense of togetherness within our Sabre family. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Warm regards,
Rob Froland

Pink Shirt Day – 2024
For the month of February New Sarepta is celebrating “Kindness is popping everywhere at NSE”. Pink Shirt Day will be on Wednesday February 28th, 2024, when our school celebrates Pro-Kindness. This year’s theme on their website is “Lift Each Other Up”. The design of this year’s shirt was created by Corey Bulpitt in his signature graffiti style, with two gesturing hands featuring a traditional Haida human face. This indicates the welcoming and respect of others and serves as a friendly greeting which is used throughout Coast Salish communities, with similar gestures used throughout communities in the Northwest Coast. The Pink Shirt Day campaign recognizes the importance of unity, inclusivity, and diversity of all people. Throughout February Character Education Class will be discussing pro-kindness and connection.
Alberta Education’s Annual Assurance Plan Survey for parents/guardians of students in Grade 4 is coming soon. Click here to read the letter from Superintendent Bill Romanchuk.
We can’t wait to hear from you, BGSD parents/guardians, students & community members! Available until February 16.
Your input is invaluable in crafting the best educational experience for your children. Take our 5-minute survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/bgsd2024checkin-nses.
The choir and ukulele club will play at the CEC: Kindness/Connection Assembly on February 22. Parents are welcome.
Speech Competition
The Speech Competition portion of the Leduc Music Festival will take place during the festival that runs April 2-18, 2024. More information for students in grades 2-6 who have chosen to participate in the festival will be sent out.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is once again building a milk jug Igloo and would love donations of milk jugs that have been cleaned with soap and not crushed. Anyone who would be willing to donate would be greatly appreciated!
Character Ed
New Sarepta Elementary School had a terrific Sabre Day on January 25th. Students had an hour long assembly discussing the topic of connection, which has been the theme this month for Character Education Class. Classes were buddied up to discuss five characteristics you bring to a friendship. We also discussed what you are looking for in friendship with others. We are excited for February here at NSE. Our theme this month is “Kindness is popping everywhere at NSE”.
Hour Zero Program
Black Gold School Division uses the Hour Zero School Emergency Program to prepare for and respond to emergencies. A detailed summary of the program can be located in the BGDS Emergency Program Brochure.
It is important that staff and students keep our training up-to-date in order for our emergency response to be effective. As such, we will be conducting a number of drills throughout the year. Please contact the office if you have any questions about our emergency response drills.
NSES Lost & Found
