Principal’s Message – October 2024
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
As we move into October, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the great start to the school year and share some of the exciting things ahead.
Fall is a time of change, and it’s been wonderful to see students settling into their routines and engaging in learning with enthusiasm. We have many events coming up in October: Fire Prevention Week (Oct 7th- Oct 11th), the Grade 5/6 Catch Volleyball tournament, and our Halloween festivities at the end of the month. These events are wonderful opportunities to strengthen our school community, enjoy our relationships, and celebrate each other’s successes.
Today was an important day at our school as we recognized National Truth and Reconciliation Day. During our assembly today, it was a sea of orange. Students worked with their grade partners on creating hearts containing meaningful words representing the support, love, or hope we wanted to share with the individuals who residential schools have impacted. The hearts will be put up around the school to create something beautiful and meaningful!
I look forward to seeing you at our events and working together to make this a fantastic month of growth and learning.
Warm regards,
Rob Froland
Principal
National Day for Truth & Reconciliation / Orange Shirt Day
October 1, 2024 we participated in our Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day Assembly. We gathered together to learn about the history and legacy of residential schools, reflect on the experiences of survivors, and discuss the importance of reconciliation. With buddy classes we created hearts to share a message of love, healing and support to Indigenous people to place in our school.
Terry Fox Run – 2024
On Friday September 27th, New Sarepta Elementary participated in the annual Terry Fox Run. Our theme for this year was “DONUT Give Up”. For the month of September NSE students learned about why Terry Fox is seen as a Canadian Hero. Our school raised $1,143 well done NSE! If the students raised $500.00 Mr. Froland agreed to run in a donut costume! Our teachers had lots of fun competing against our grade level partners in a donut eating contest. Excellent effort NSE we are so proud of you!
